Every pant carries its padding inside the garment. Four zones on every build; the pro-level build, and any style you specify, adds a fifth along the inner thigh.
Hip, outer thigh, tailbone and seat, and waist padding are cut as separate pieces from their own pattern pieces, held in pockets or channels between shell and liner, or stitched to the liner. Separate zones let the pant bend at hip and knee with the stride.
Each zone moves independently against that size's measurements: hip padding follows the size's hip line, outer thigh padding its thigh length, tailbone padding where its seat falls. A youth small and a senior extra large each carry padding positioned for their own body.
Each zone's position is checked against the graded pattern and recorded on the order file. In a skating stance the padding should sit over the hip, down the outer thigh, across the tailbone and around the lower back without riding up. Off for your roster? The pattern is corrected before bulk.
Padding positions, piece shapes and grading are stored with your order. A mid-season top-up for three new players is cut from the same pattern as the original run, so new pants match the old ones on the bench.
Hockey pants fit a little like running shoes: two pairs in the same size feel different depending on their shape. Most rosters use one profile plus an adjustable feature or two.
Narrower from thigh to knee with a trimmer leg opening: a closer, more mobile silhouette, popular with competitive senior and junior teams. The outer thigh padding sits closer to the leg.
Shaped through hip, seat and thigh with articulation at hip and knee. Recommended for the pro-level build and women's-fit pants: the pattern follows the skating stance and the padding moves with the stride.
Roomier through hip and thigh with a straight leg. One size covers more variation, which suits youth programs, adult league teams and mixed builds, and it is the easiest profile to hand down.
Leg length extends or shortens within a size range. Junior and youth programs keep growing players in the same pant longer; clubs sharing pants across age groups cover more players with fewer sizes.
A belt and waistband with a wider adjustment range, for rosters whose waist and hip measurements don't follow a standard ratio, and for programs that loan pants season to season.

Outside the padding, a hockey pant is four more components. Each one is set with you at the spec stage and written onto the order file.
Durable synthetic woven fabric, with a heavier, more abrasion-resistant face on the higher builds and reinforcement panels at the seat and lower leg. Smooth polyester carries sublimation; textured faces suit embroidery.
Breathable mesh or brushed lining that holds the padding in position and moves moisture away from the skin. Where padding sits in pockets, the liner forms the pocket walls, stitched so pieces cannot drift between zones.
An integrated belt with buckle or hook fastening, backed by an internal waistband that holds the waist and lower back padding at the right height. Adjustable waist widens the range for mixed rosters and handed-down pants.
Structural seams are double-stitched and bar-tacked at the crotch, belt attachment, seat reinforcement and leg opening. Construction lines run clear of sublimated panels and embroidered marks, and every seam is fixed on the pattern.
Decoration on a padded pant is planned around the padding. Your artwork is laid onto the actual pattern pieces once the fit and size run are set, so a hip crest lands in the same visual spot on a youth small and a senior extra large.
Stripes, gradients and multi-color panels printed into the fabric before cutting, set up per pattern piece so stripes continue across seams.
Crests, logos, initials and brand marks stitched onto the panel or made as patches. Artwork is digitized, stitch density checked, and a sample mark sewn before bulk.
Numbers on the hip or side of the leg, set from your roster file so every pant carries the right number in the right size.
